Saga HT-10 Electric Guitar Kit

| May 28, 2011 | 1 Comment

Saga Musical Instruments has steadily grown to be one of the largest importers and distributors of stringed and fretted musical instruments kits in the world. Their model HT-10 is a PRS-style, double-cutaway, solid-body archtop kit that includes all parts and instructions to build a complete, playable guitar. The body is made of basswood with a flamed maple top that looks great with just lacquering. The neck is made of solid Maple with a fretted rosewood fingerboard, paddle head design peghead and an adjustable truss rod. The hardware is heavy nickel-plated, and the electronics are complete and ready for installation with no soldering required. However as with other Saga kits, expect the kit to come with inexpensive and low-quality electronics and tuners that you’ll probably want to upgrade after building the kit.

The kit components are shown in the photo below. We’ve heard from other kit builders that the body is coated with sanding sealant, making it difficult or impossible to stain. That means the kit just needs lacquering, which looks great from the kit build reports we’ve seen.

We’ve included a nice review video below from Axeman3D. If you’ve built this kit please leave some comments to help guide prospective buyers.

Overall this kit delivers a low-cost path to an attractive PRS-style guitar that you can upgrade in quality as your budget and taste allows.
